According to TCM's Eddie Muller, John Garfield thought this was his best performance and that it was the film of which he was most proud.
In April 1967, director Sam Peckinpah told a Los Angeles Times interviewer, "This may surprise you, but I admire Michael Curtiz. Especially The Breaking Point (1950), with Phyllis Thaxter and John Garfield."
Even in Southern California, the inclusion of an African American child seen playing on the street with Harry's kids would have been considered daring at the time, as most communities were still largely segregated.
This film has a 100% rating based in 12 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition to playing a German Officer in this movie (mostly speaking in English), Sir Christopher Lee dubbed the voice of the Dennis Price character in the scenes where he is speaking in German.
William Hartnell made a career out of playing tough military NCOs in movies and on television. However, in real-life, he joined the Royal Armoured Corps in World War II, but was invalided out within eighteen months due to a nervous breakdown.

Back to the Future III, 1990.
When filming the scene where Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen tries to lynch Marty, Michael J. Fox was accidentally hanged, rendering him unconscious for a short time. He records this in his autobiography "Lucky Man" (2002).
According to the book "Billy Gibbons: Rock & Roll Gearhead", ZZ Top was hanging around the set, and was asked to be the town band. During one take, the camera broke. While waiting for the camera to be repaired, Michael J. Fox asked if they would play "Hey Good Lookin'" which they did. Afterwards, more requests were played. Two hours later, someone inquired if the camera had been repaired. Robert Zemeckis replied that it had been fixed for quite a while, he just didn't want to stop the party that had evolved.
