The Rolling Stones – 'Sticky Fingers'
Label: Rolling Stones Records – COC 59100

Country: UK
Released: 1971
Genre: Rock
Style: Blues Rock, Classic Rock
Another indispensable LP in my opinion.![]()

Rolling Stones – 'Let It Bleed'
Label: Decca – SKL 5025
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Stereo
Country: UK
Released: 1969
Genre: Rock
Style: Blues Rock, Classic Rock
Another essential album by the Stones. I actually prefer it to 'Sticky Fingers'.
Barry
Steely Dan – 'Aja'
Label: MCA Records MCMP 31003
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album
Country: Italy
Released: 1977
Genre: Jazz, Rock, Pop
Style: Jazz-Rock, Classic Rock, Art Rock
Prompted by another post, I though I would give it a spin. I have a problem with all of Steely Dan's output: essentially finding them to be superbly recorded but "easy listening AOR". The sort of thing you put on when you don't know what else to play, and you don't want to be challenged.
They all vary in the degree of anodyne listening, but Aja is to my mind not one of the better examples in that regard. Sorry.

Being a sucker for punishment, I continued with this:
Steely Dan – 'Can't Buy A Thrill'
Label: ABC Records – ABCL 5024
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue, Black Labels
Country: UK
Released: 1974
Genre: Rock
Style: Pop Rock, Classic Rock
Somewhat better, which is perhaps to be expected from a debut album.
Barry
Now for something a bit more challenging:
The Doors – 'The Doors'
Label: Elektra – EKS 74007
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Stereo
Country: UK
Released: 1967
Genre: Rock
Style: Psychedelic Rock

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
