Same here. 20mph on a lot of roads, but the Beemer & Audi mob think it doesn't apply to them. I tend to do a touch over the 20, but if the idiots start tailgating, I slow down to 15mph. I've got used to the 20 limit and it doesn't bother me.

Tailgaters do my head in, so I do what you do. I also resent Audi, BMW and Merc drivers who automatically think the outside lane is their preserve, and sit there doing 70 - 75 mph. It's an overtaking lane FFS!

yup, they can be dangerous if wrongly loaded/wrongly towed etc. they might break free but they usually whip the vehicle about or flip it completely. depends on weight etc.

Yeah it was a pretty long single axle, and most of the weight was at the back. I didn't know any better. The van (a Ford Escort) wedged under the armco, and would have looked very much like a Porsche 911, but the engine got in the way.

Mrs P is so much better at all this - she has her PSV (or whatever its called these days), and has had a mobile butty shop and a mobile chippy. She has also many times towed a caravan round Devon and Cornwall, and if you can do that you can do anything. Apart from avoiding speeding tickets tee-hee

Currently driving a Honda Jazz hire car - pure petrol - automatic. Even though it's a hybrid it's not a plug-in hybrid - and it's very noticeable how rough the brakes are. Compared to "proper" EVs which can often be driven almost completely using the accelerator pedal - depending on settings - this one is decidely not so smooth.

Not sure if driving it in B mode is a good idea as that might work in a different way. The comparable mode in the old Prius we had was useful for going down steep hills.

I'm not totally against the so-called "self charging" hybrids - though that strikes me as a marketing gimmick. Basically they still burn petrol (or perhaps diesel), and with the current prices of combustible fuel are really not great at all. Even on such a hybrid car, the regenerative braking should be better than this one shows.

In other respects it's quite nice to drive.

Non plug in hybrids are a a waste of time for various reasons. They only perform well around cities/towns as soon as you exceed the fossil fuel engine cut in they loose any benefit, on long journey they are less fuel efficient than a non hybrid due to extra weight of battery and motor, their batteries have shortened lives and few if any manufacturers warranty them. Plug in hybrids are not much better due to limited range on battery and most cut over to fossil power at around 50mph.

If you can stick some solar panels on the roof, get a Zappi charger and buy a full electric car with 250+ mileage range, you will be surprised at how easy it is and the savings are great. If your an average driver range anxiety really is not an issue, and even on long journeys you just plan ahead where to recharge and have a break.

Since getting our Tesla model 3 we have done about 3500 miles and are averaging 2p a mile for electric, 85% of recharging done at home. We recently when to Heathrow from East Devon in it and put in 50% of charge in it at Fleet services for £10.99, which took 15 minutes. We got to Heathrow and left the car with 245 miles range, on return after 12 days it had 232 range(Teslas do all sorts of management stuff which means they use just under 1% a day). We drove all the way home and still had 60 miles of rand left.

So we did just over 306 miles total at a cost of 3.6p a mile.

If a 40mpg car it would have cost around 21.5p a mile or a total of £65.64.

If you are going to change cars I would seriously recommend you think full electric there are over 70 to choose from in the UK.

Actually that’s not true. I can’t believe it when test reports say that Hybrids don’t work well, fuel wise, when out of the city

My Prius gets around 45-50 in town but as much as 65 on a long run on motorways etc

It’s also a myth about their batteries failing, they just don’t. When you look at the hundreds of Prius for sale it’s extremely rare to read their battery has been changed. There are Prius taxis with 400,000 miles that are still on the original battery

I still get mine serviced and MOT’d at Toyota once a year which includes a Hybrid health check and it sails through. Apart from tyres and a couple of drop links from wear and tear it’s been the most trouble free totally reliable car I’ve ever owned

It’s been so good, and my local Toyota dealer is excellent, that I’m thinking of getting the new shape one. It’s unfortunate that you cannot buy a new Prius now

Go fully electric, fossil fuel will continue to rise, expect £10-12/gallon by end of year, and once up their it’s unlikely to drop. Electric even at 35p/kWh is about 1/3 the cost.

im under £18 for a full 64kwh charge. thats at 28p a unit. that takes me well over 300 miles(summer)
