The scene in which Jack the Monkey is shivering, was accomplished by the concerted efforts of the special effects and animal training departments. The effects guys made a small wooden barrel with a vibrating plate on top. The animal trainers taught the monkey to sit with her arms crossed on the plate.


A real-life council of pirates existed at one time. The Brethren of the Coast was a loose coalition of pirates and buccaneers, active in the 17th and 18th centuries in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico. They had a base on the island of Tortuga, off the coast of Haiti, and in Port Royal, Jamaica. The Brethren were originally French Huguenots and British Protestants, but their ranks were joined by other adventurers of various nationalities, including Spaniards and Africans.

The green flash is a real, but very rare, optical phenomenon during sunrise or sunset, that is best observed at sea. It is caused by the refraction of light in the atmosphere, amplified by a mirage.

Looks a lot like a load of rubbish but you've got Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Margert Rutherford, Maggie Smith, Rod Taylor and Orson Welles in it so I thought I'd give it a go.

A bunch of rich/famous people get stuck at Heathrow Terminal 3 due to fog. (No, it's not a horror film like the reality would be).

The delay creates various problems for all of the characters, especially Liz Taylor who is running away from her husband to go to New York with some French bloke, and Rod Taylor who has to get to New York to sign a contract or he'll lose his company.

Quite surprised I watched the whole thing as it's pretty well done and everyone is good in it, especially Richard Burton. Such a shame he mainly starred in complete crap.

They built an exact replica of Terminal 3 interior, one of the largest sets ever built in the UK at the time,

Written by Terence Rattigan who said he based it on the true story of when Vivian Leigh ran off from Olivier, but got stuck at the airport due to bad weather.

i would imagine a few security guards were in evidence. but yes im sure there would be heavy insurance. the tiara, i think was given her by mike todd, her husband. the only one she didnt divorce.. he died after a years wedlock.

studios were often fairly safe but yeah it must have been a risk.

Todd actually died in a private plane crash. taylor had wanted to go too but had a cold and he wouldnt let her.. lucky girl. sure his grave got turned over by blaggers looking for a ring taylor was supposed to have put back on his hand before funeral. That alone shows how stupid they were as there was very little left of the remains and she never got to see the 'bag'
