After Club (Richard Kiel) gets hit between the legs, Preacher (Clint Eastwood) helps him back to his horse. You do not see this, but Richard, due to back problems, had to use a step that was on the side of the horse to get onto his saddle. If you look you can see Richard take a step onto the platform before getting on the horse.
The first horse assigned to Richard Kiel collapsed the first time he climbed aboard. He was then assigned a stronger horse.

The title refers to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from the Book of the Revelation, chapter six. Megan Wheeler (Sydney Penny) is reading the exact verse when she and her mom, Sarah (Carrie Snodgress), first see Preacher (Clint Eastwood) ride up to their house.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, 2006. Directed by Gore Verbinski.






A popular pirate punishment was marooning. The pirate who was being punished was put on an island and left, sometimes for a few days, sometimes permanently. The "dead man's chest" is a small rocky island, so called because the rocks reminded pirates of a ribcage. It has no water or shade, and is so low that waves frequently wash over it. To be marooned on the "chest" was to be given a death sentence under the broiling Caribbean sun.

i was reading that Clint's gun was a remington 1858 model, but it wasn't afaik. it was a remington 1861 new model... just to be pedantic

as for above... Revelation 6 tells of a book or scroll in God's right hand that is sealed with seven seals. The Lamb of God/Lion of Judah opens the first four of the seven seals, which summons four beings that ride out on white, red, black, and pale horses. Zechariah describes them as "the ones whom the Lord has sent to patrol the earth," causing it to rest quietly. Ezekiel lists them as "sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague".

In John's revelation, the first horseman rides on a white horse, carries a bow, and is given a crown - he rides forward as a figure of Conquest, perhaps invoking Pestilence, Christ, or the Antichrist. The second carries a sword and rides a red horse and is the creator of War. The third, a food-merchant riding upon a black horse, symbolizes Famine. He carries The Scales. The fourth and final horse is pale, and upon it rides Death, accompanied by Hades. "They were given authority over a quarter of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and plague, and by means of the beasts of the earth."

Apocalyptic Christianity sometimes interprets the Four Horsemen as a vision of harbingers of the Last Judgment, setting a divine end-time upon the world.

The Day After Tomorrow, 2004.




Twentieth Century Fox invited a group of scientists to preview this movie, to test their reactions to the "science" used in it. None of the scientists were impressed with what they saw, although most conceded that the movie was enjoyable nonsense. NASA were equally impressed

The production team had some doubts about having a major disaster hit New York City, especially after 9/11. Whenever it played in the Big Apple, audiences whooped with delight when the city was hit by an enormous tidal wave.

after saying all that its a pretty enjoyable bit if filmmaking, if silly.

Leo Gordon had served five years for armed robbery at San Quentin State Prison. For this reason, Heinze, the Folsom warden, originally objected to Gordon appearing in the film, but director Don Siegel was able to convince him that Gordon was no threat to the prison.
Producer Walter Wanger served a four-month prison term for shooting agent Jennings Lang, whom he suspected of having an affair with his wife Joan Bennett. The experiences he had in prison so unnerved him that upon his release he resolved to make a film about what prison was "really" like.
Actual inmates who were incarcerated and guards at Folsom State Prison at the time this movie was made are featured as extras

This was such a financial and critical success for "Allied Artists" (formerly "Monogram"), they were able to book the film into theatres well into the late 1950s.

John Steinbeck loved the movie and said that Henry Fonda as Tom Joad made him "believe my own words".

The pro-union stance of the film led to both John Steinbeck and John Ford being investigated by Congress during the McCarthy "Red Scare" era for alleged pro-Communist leanings.

In the book, John Steinbeck had the character of Casy parodying the song "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" by singing "Yes sir, that's my Savior/Jesus is my Savior/Jesus is my Savior now." The Motion Picture Production Code then in effect forbade use of the words "God" and "Jesus" except when used "reverently", so the script resorted to having him hum: "Mm-mmm, mmm, my Savior".

Banks and the large farming corporations that controlled most California farms were not keen on the original novel (it was banned in some states and in several counties in California, and the book was not carried in the municipal library of author John Steinbeck's home town of Salinas, California, until the 1990s) and were even less thrilled that a film was being made of it. The Associated Farmers of California called for a boycott of all 20th Century-Fox films, and Steinbeck himself received death threats.

The film was banned by Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union because it showed that even the poorest Americans could afford cars.

Shame the ending of the film was bowdlerised (presumably to pass the censors and not upset prudish American sensibilities). Otherwise a powerful film.
