    shooting brakes, estates etc are all marketing car wise. station wagons were ok, and had a main purpose associated with its name

    I don't agree that it's just marketing.

    A Lotus Elan shooting brake yesterday:



    Clearly not a saloon, not an estate car, not a station wagon, not a hatchback etc, it's a specific configuration and look.

    that is an abomination lol... a brake was a wagon for breaking horses. a shooting break was for transporting folk and gear to hunt... i dont think the wealthy would want to go hunting in that

    Yes but the concept pre-dates Range Rovers. Plus it has other practical applications in the modern world.
