The electric sunroof of my car became 'self aware' the other day. Came back from doing a bit of shopping and noticed that the rear was tilted up. It was not like that when I parked the car (or not that I had noticed), but when I unlocked the car and got in to shut the sunroof, none of it's controls worked - all I got was a clicking sound from the mechanism but no movement.

Now I had had the battery replaced about 20 months ago, and in doing so the car had to be 'told' that the battery was new so all the car settings would remain. Thinking the same might have to be done to sort out the sunroof, I took the car to my local friendly garage to get it sorted out. They thought all it might need is 'resetting', so I left it with them only to be told about an hour later that there was nothing wrong with it and the sunroof was working perfectly.

Since they hadn't done anything there was no charge; apart from me feeling a bit of a fraud and somewhat foolish in having wasted their time!

i had an issue with a skoda octavia that the windows would open, often fully at odd times like middle of night, and you'd find car soaking wet. too ages to get a fix, and it turned out to be the key fobs, which were reprogrammed.

I'm glad my car has no autonomous 'user aids'. It's so basic, I don't have gauges apart from fuel and speedo, no electric mirrors, remote locking or annoying servicing advisories either. I'd have done without electric windows too if I could. It's all just stuff to go wrong.

oh, i like all my gadgets like at moment, i put something in bin and saw the orange light on bonnet on.. means the car is topping up the 12v system battery with the traction battery, or at least checking if it needs it. it takes very little from the traction but a full 12v one is good as it runs all the low level stuff as in an ice car. (thats the theory only of course lol)
currently ive spent about half what i would have in fuel for mileage on last car which was fairly good efficiency wise, so cant complain there. just pay for it differently..

I feel a bit sorry for Travelodge, when their resident smart hoover would rather kip under a hedge. I spent a night in a Travelodge last year, and it really wasn't that bad. I had to go over the road to a Premier Inn for breakfast though.

Two men take corpse into Irish post office to claim dead man’s pension

Deceased man ‘propped up’ by two men as they walked into the building in County Carlow on Friday morning


Gardaí have launched an investigation after two men carried a dead body into an Irish post office in an apparent attempt to claim his pension.

The deceased pensioner was described in reports as being “propped up” by the men as they walked into the building in County Carlow on Friday morning.

The outlandish series of events began when one of the men entered the post office at about 11.30am on Friday, asking to collect a pension payment for an older man, the Irish Times reported. He was refused, with staff informing him that the pensioner would have to be present in order for the money to be handed over.

The man returned soon after with two other men, one of whom was in his 60s and appeared to be being supported by the two others. The younger men asked to be given his pension payment.

No cash was handed over and the two men fled the scene, abandoning the man’s body after a woman who had become suspicious raised the alarm with a staff member. The deceased man is reported to have been well known to the men who had been carrying his body.

Gardaí said they were investigating “all the circumstances surrounding the unexplained death of an elderly male in the Carlow area”. A postmortem will be conducted.

Everything on the Astra died. With the central locking on, so the doors would not open. Also the electric windows wouldn't operate, but Anita had her window half down and this bloke in waders managed to drag her through the gap. Insurance wrote the car off.

This is the origin of the saying "It is easier for Anita to go through the window of an Astra than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God".
