Another neo noir now with Charley Varrick, 1973. It was directed by Don Siegel and starred Walter Matthau, Andrew Robinson, Joe Don Baker and John Vernon.
Matthau won the 1974 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards for Best Actor in Charley Varrick. In addition, Frank Morriss was nominated for the 1974 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards for Best Editing.

Hopscotch, 1980..Directed by Ronald Neame, and stars Walter Matthau, Glenda Jackson, Sam Waterston, Ned Beatty, and Herbert Lom.
New York Times critic Vincent Canby gave the film a rave review: "a lark, a comic cloak-and-dagger adventure ... a stylish, lighter-than-air vehicle that moves from Munich to Salzburg to Washington to the Deep South to Europe and back without once losing its breath. It is beautifully played by Mr. Matthau and Miss Jackson and by a supporting cast ... directed by Ronald Neame and scored largely by Mozart. My only reservation is that Miss Jackson isn't on the screen enough"

The Heiress, 1949. stars Olivia de Havilland, Montgomery Clift and Ralph Richardson. This is an adaptation of the Henry James book, Washington Square(1880). Directed by the great William Wyler
This Criterion Bluray presentation is rather good with an excellent mono track. Picture is also good and was rescanned in 4k. this was de Havilland's best ever performance.
The sniff of a parents' dislike of his child(as his wife died in childbirth) and a beau who may just be after her money is all too much for a shy girl to bear forever.. The way the actress handles the change to bitterness is amazing.
One of Wyler's greatest.

More classic acting now with The Boys from Brazil, 1978. Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier star, and featuring James Mason, Lilli Palmer, Uta Hagen, Anne Meara, Denholm Elliott, and Steve Guttenberg. It was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner.
Although the bulk of the film is set in South America, Fryer says actually filming in that continent was "logistically impossible" so the decision was made to shoot it in Lisbon, Portugal. Filming started in Portugal in October 1977, with additional filming in London, Vienna, the Kölnbrein Dam in Austria, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The scenes that were set in Massachusetts were shot in London.
There were 3 Academy Awards Nominations from this;(none won) Academy Award for Best Actor – Laurence Olivier, Academy Award for Film Editing – Robert Swink and Academy Award for Original Music Score – Jerry Goldsmith.
