The Grapes of Wrath, 1940. Directed by John Ford, It was based on John Steinbeck's 1939 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The screenplay was written by Nunnally Johnson and the executive producer was Darryl F. Zanuck.
It stars, Henry Fonda, Jane Darwell and John Carradine.
Film won 2 Academy Awards; Jane Darwell(Best Supporting Actress), and John Ford(director).
A superb transfer this; one of the best, and helped by being shot in low light i think.
Bluray version from i think 2012.

Murder My Sweet, 1944. Stars Dick Powell, Claire Trevor and Anne Shirley. 6'5" Mike Mazurki, who was also a pro wrestler, plays Moose Malloy..a scary guy.lol
Murder, My Sweet is considered one of the better adaptations of Chandler's work. Glenn Erickson wrote, "Murder, My Sweet remains the purest version of Chandler on film, even if it all seems far too familiar now."

Cat Ballou, 1965. Stars Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin.. Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye are the travelling minstrels who pop up throughout the film.
Lee Marvin won an Academy Award for his duel role..
The film was well recieved and did very well at box office. The film was selected by the American Film Institute as the 10th greatest Western of all time in its AFI's 10 Top 10 list in 2008.

Picnic at Hanging Rock , 1975. Directed by Peter Weir, and starring Rachel Roberts, Dominic Guard, Helen Morse, Vivean Gray and Jacki Weaver.
Weir recalled that when the film was first screened in the United States, American audiences were disturbed by the fact that the mystery remained unsolved. According to Weir, "One distributor threw his coffee cup at the screen at the end of it, because he'd wasted two hours of his life—a mystery without a goddamn solution!"
Critic Vincent Canby noted this reaction among audiences in a 1979 review of the film, in which he discussed the film's elements of artistic "Australian horror romance", albeit one without the cliches of a conventional horror film.
Despite this, the film was a critical success, with American film critic Roger Ebert calling it "a film of haunting mystery and buried sexual hysteria" and remarked that it "employs two of the hallmarks of modern Australian films: beautiful cinematography and stories about the chasm between settlers from Europe and the mysteries of their ancient new home."
