I'd be going for an older Land Cruiser if it's a 4x4 she wants. Very similar. Although you can't pretend your in the Bundeswehr.

They are utterly horrid things, try driving one.
When Merc have to put inflating bolsters in the seats to stop one falling out of the window when cornering, then that should tell you how well they handle.
All but the latest ones use a steering box, so when you turn the wheel, its pot luck if anything happens.
I have driven god knows how many (including Gareth Bales pimped to fuck one) and they are utterly underwhelming.
Yes, they look good, but they are as agricultural as a Defender and a lot less reliable (and insanely expensive to service).
But apart from that, they're great.

Remember though, that it [whatever she ends up getting] will largely be something for her to potter around in and take her friends out for shopping trips/act as a 'fashion accessory'/something to look cute.

No 'serious' driving will be done in it, and at max, about 3000 miles a year!

I just can't get my head around why anyone would want one at the cost.
When the Edition 1 came out a few years ago, we couldn't get enough of them to sell, and bear in mind when specced up they were north of £155K.
They really are for people who want to show their wealth and nothing else.
For example of how bad the some of the quality is, try using the central locking.
It sounds like an cheap French car from the 90's.

I had a friend who bought a new one years ago. He said it was the worst motor he'd ever owned, horrible to drive and the transmission destroyed itself a couple of times. He gave up and bought a big Alfa instead. He loved that one.

its not my idea of a merc i have to say, but ive seen worse too. i liked my bro's first merc the best; it was an amg and had a lovely set of lines inside and out. his last one wasnt so pretty but was obviously a nice motor and got great mpg considering its size. that motor looks too big for Del although ive not seen one close up.

Well, that certainly didn't enter our heads, as we're not wired that way. It got our attention because it looks cool, nothing else, plus I'm a sucker for matt paint finishes (grey or black), as I like the 'brutal' look.

However, all noted, and thanks for your insight. If it's a shite car, it's a shite car and won't be bought. If she likes it enough though, we'll still go and look at them and arrange a test drive, and I'll put it through its paces. Plus, I'll do some research on the reliability issues and take it from there

I'm only guessing here, but if you want the one you pictured, that'll be well well over £130K.
You could buy a decent used S63AMG (which is a tremendous car) and still have enough change for a new property.
