as i said before it was collection in person, tested and working at the time. There's no comeback to the seller in that situation. Once it leaves him anything could have happened to it in the intervening time period.

No different to buying a car in a private sale, you can't go back a week later and complain it's knackered. You could have been rallying it or something in the mean time. How does the seller know you haven't been? I would refuse a refund in that situation (indeed I have).

Not the same as posting something out to someone and it arrives broken or faulty.

Once it's made its way to Stoke then the laws of physics seem to break down

There are certain aspects of the design I am not keen on, it does run hot internally, particularly one point.
I am going to fix this as I don't like challenges not to have successful outcomes.

We'll have to agree to disagree, perhaps not legally, but certainly ethically. What would you have done had you been the seller? If I know you, refunded the buyer in full, as would have Barry (as he's said), and I also. Regardless of any legal obligations, it's the correct/decent thing to do!

You still haven't said if the seller knows there's a problem or not, so does he or doesn't he?

And more importantly, what happens now - yet another box to join the growing graveyard of broken kit, chez-Macca? Or who's going to fix it?

If I were you, I'd be beyond livid, as I have an extremely low-tolerance threshold for depressing cack like that happening!

That's why, whenever I buy vintage gear (such as the Tandberg tape deck I got recently) I always *ensure first* that if there are any problems, there's a professional on hand to sort them out, but most of all I cover ALL bases to ensure, as far as possible, that I'm not left with a 'pup'.

I also collected the Tandberg from a private seller, but he was good enough to offer me a month's warranty, and he was a genuine guy whom I'm confident would've honoured it.
