So are you saying then we should simply assume that all politicians are lying disingenuous bastards, especially if they become PM? Probably so, certainly BJ-boy comes into that category.

God help us then... What happened to getting into politics for the RIGHT REASONS (to do good) and to fight for what is right; the values you believe in and stand for - do such noble traits no longer exist? Is the whole thing simply a seedy quagmire of selfishness and corruption?

I thought you did. You voted in the last general election didn't you?

I'm sure most politicians get into it for the right reason, just that some lose their way at some point.

Only to try and keep BJ-boy out, as I knew he'd be a nightmare. So for the first time in my life I voted Labour, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Or if I had, my vote would've gone to Plaid Cymru. Or SNP, if I still lived in Scotland.

If what you say is true, then BJ has certainly 'lost his way', to put it politely.

I think political lying has always been there and nowadays it's increasingly more difficult to get away with it so to speak as everything is recorded and available for playback at any given moment, politicians have realised that so don't bother trying to worm their way out of it anymore, they simply refuse to take accountability for what they've said or call it "fake news". BJ says whatever he thinks will improve his position regardless of it's truth, unfortunately telling the truth doesn't get you far in politics, people simply don't want to hear how shit it actually is and the establishment want to keep their dirty money making secrets that fuck the working man over on a daily basis out of the public eye for as long as possible.

Nowadays politics is sold to us like advertising on a TV and unfortunately people are buying it.

Mostly it was the church or politics for the male kids of rich who were fairly useless at everything.. think its still that way today. a great way to earn decent money; good benefits, and scope to get to top if you show you can crawl, lie and cheat well.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

And on that we wholeheartedly agree! It's one reason why I abhor the extremes of right-wing politics or capitalism.

What you describe needs exposed and eradicated, and the focus turned much more on what's good for the common man, so when this Covid shite is over, and BJ's time is up, we need to boot the Tories out and get things back on more even keel.

It's such a shame that you won't watch 'Yes Minister' and 'Yes Prime Minister' since the answers to all your questions are right there.

I think it's safe to say that no-one has ever gone into politics for 'the right reasons', in fact that's a tautology.

I love that you think Corbyn was a libertarian. Not sure exactly what he was but I would say pretty close to Marxist/Trotskyite which is pretty much diametrically opposed to libertarianism, and is all about controlling the minutiae of people's lives, not only what they are allowed do, but what they are allowed to say and think.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
