Not too much of a punt to have taken either, glad it worked out Martin.

Letting go and relaxing
is the most ‘in control’ thing you can do
Yes NAD stuff can be remarkably capable. I recently picked up a 2150 power amp to go with my 1020 pre-amp. Not to be sniffed at by any means soundwise.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
I wasn't going to go above £140 but thankfully there was only one other bidder.
It's weird but with all the hundreds of bits of kit I've had pass through over the years I've never had anything from NAD. Even though I've on several occasions heard NAD systems elsewhere and been massively impressed. Not by the depth of bass or the levels of absolute clarity or any of the hifi things, but by how much pleasure they were to listen to.
Last time was a fair few years ago now at a friend of a friends house, all NAD system, their absolute bottom-of-the-range from about 15 years ago with the dinky little speakers just plonked on a desk. The bloke was talking to me and I had to ask him to repeat himself as my attention was completely caught by the music and I'm thinking 'This sounds better than my set up FFS!'

A restored 2200 did pretty good too although not quite as well as the C320BEE's power amp:

prefer the looks of the 2150 and 2200 though. That's the only problem with this one I have.

Yes, I'd rate something like the 320BEE as likely to be a decent alternative to the evergreen Denon PMA-350SE, which I still think is also a huge bargain.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
I've got a 250SE lying about, wonder what that would be like in power amp form? Would need some surgery to separate the pre-amp as there's no links. Don't think there are any on the 350 either?

Ah disappointing, with my ear up against the speaker I can hear some hum. Not much, heard worse from some valve amps, but any hum at all is unacceptable to me. Guess it will need looking at. On the plus side sorting that can only improve the sound quality.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
