I'm afraid I can't get 'worked up' about any TV 'celebrity', in terms of either love or hate. No-one really bothers me that much, just not wired that way
GW seems fairly harmless to me. Respect though on his recent (massive) weight loss.
Oh and as a serious foodie, I love (good) cookery programmes, and also quite a few dramas on BBC, not to mention Match of the Day, and the antiques/upcycling shows, The Repair Shop, yadda yadda!

His so obviously false bonhomie, his forced amiability, his so patronising presentation style, especially in 'eat well for less'. I can't believe how long this programme has run, how many times do you need to be told supermarkets own brands are cheaper and usually as good if not better than the big named brands. Of course you can replicate a takeaway meal using your own ingredients cheaper than ordering out but that's missing the point. It's a treat and saves you having to cook.Lol - why?
I've no respect for his opinion on contestants meals in Masterchef, he has no qualifications as a gourmet and his forays into the restaurant business failed. His weight has been up and down like a whore's drawers and I've no doubt he'll be roly poly Gregg again before long. There are far better presenters out there who know far more about their subject and who don't have such a false, abrasive manner who just don't get the gigs that Gregg does.

My only comment would be [and this isn't specifically in defence of GW] that you don't need any 'qualifications as a gourmet' to know what good food is, or what qualifies as the 'gourmet' variety; one only needs to have travelled and eaten well, studied food to degree, and therefore amassed an appropriate level of culinary knowledge
It's a bit like with food critics - many of them couldn't cook for toffee, but as serious foodies have 'honed' their palates accordingly on years of fine-dining, and therefore are in a position to be critical judges of food
Or another analogy - you don't need to be a talented footballer to be a great manager, etc...
