I read that the fashion for watches with large dials is coming to an end. https://www.gq.com/gallery/best-smal...hes-under-38mm, and that watches under 40mm in size are to be preferred.
The question I ask is that the diameter of the watchglass/dial, or is it the overall diameter of the case (excluding winder)? The case of my Rolex (bought in 1970) measures 35mm.

Strange that Rolex have made their 'Submariner' 1mm bigger and I haven't noticed a resurgence of smaller watches? (I note that the article linked to was dated April 2020 with the original article dating back to 2018).
Diameter is usually quoted excluding the crown but when I sell a watch I always qualify that.
But when is big big?

I also read of the resurgence of smaller watches in one of the weekend supplements about three months ago. Personally I dislike the large watch sizes that are prevalent today, but respect it's a matter of taste.

Taste yes but it’s also about how watches ‘wear’ and the size of the wrist it’s on.
I’m still wearing the Parnis I referenced earlier in the thread and hadn’t realised it’s actually 46mm (excluding the crown [emoji6] )

40mm is my limit for bezel-cased watches, 38mm for non-bezel pieces. I used to wear watches as big as 50mm, but they're far too big and end up getting clonked on door frames etc.
A slender profile also does it for me. 12mm the absolute limit.

One of my many Parnis watches, it’ll be an ‘homage’ to something.
