Well having spent a little time in Nepal and whilst there was inspired by the people and their views on life.
My understanding is it is considered to be the embodiment of Buddhist beliefs, or its most condensed form. I believe it also refers to the Lotus which is central and the jewel, or relationship between male and female in all things.
