Hee-hee... Frankie Howard used to get right on my tits, lol, as did Kenneth Williams, for similar reasons (their rather 'affected' mannerisms and 'overt Englishness') - just not my bag, soz... My parents also felt the same, along with Dad's Army, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, and other programmes of that ilk, hence why they were rarely on. Couldn't stand 'Yes Minister' either.
None of us really 'got' that type of British humour. But we always laughed at all the Scottish comedies, going right back to Stanley Baxter and Rikki Fulton - two true comedy geniuses, IMO!

its an old british classic, and there were calls for it to be banned here when it was shown... tbh its not that horrific now but in 48 on film... well it was .. the ending was changed to be less cold hearted than the book, probably to get passed the censor
