I've just ordered the ELNAs from Parts Connexion too. Not sure how long they'll take to deliver, but I'm in no rush... I've just replaced the Caiman PSU with the Maplin Linear one that Stan recommended and am enjoying that for a while.

I've just been reading up on this new Elna cap mod and having a look inside my Caiman and I've noticed something odd. Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I've noticed that there seems to be more than one circuit layout in Caiman's owned by AoS members.
I've managed to find a couple of pictures that show this:

This is MartinT's Caiman (which matches mine):

    And heres James' (Carson):

If you look to the left of where the left ribbon meets the PCB, you'll notice that MartinT's has an extra electrolytic cap and resistor. That's the only change I can see but there may be others.

Does anyone know what the story is on this?

    Cheers.

I noticed this too. Perhaps one of them is an older version and the other a newer one. I bought my Caiman (the bottom one in the post above) November last year so could be a newer version....maybe.

Perhaps Stan could enlighten us on this difference?

I'm not worried, just interested as to what the extra components do and why they were added or removed from the design depending on which came first.
It could be relevant to the Elna cap mod as the owners of with Caimans that have the extra cap may need/want to upgrade that one as well.

Obviously I don't expect Stan to divulge trade secrets but some basic info would be appreciated so we know if there's any point upgrading the extra cap.

    Cheers.
