Twenty one years ago, 509's were less than £2500 retail and I perhaps foolishly bought a pair of Tube Technology Genesis mono's instead, which sold for about the same.
Several years ago, stuff on ebay was dirt cheap. It's only in recent years that audio has taken off in price (unlike the clocks I bought which now sell for half what I paid for them).
I can't go on and I can't go back, I don't feel so matter of fact,
I tried and tried to make good sense, What's the good to try it all again?

When I first started selling 509's they were around £1100 the pair and made the USA competitors look like very poor value indeed, now they are similarly priced. This is partly due to the £2K price rise just before Christmas...
Having said that they are still wonderful amps, solid and reliable.
As for 'vintage' products - I used to moan that all the wonderful old kit I have was worth virtually nothing but now it's all gone stratospheric and I'm still not happy because I find it too expensive to buy goodies on E-Bay...

Thats a good machine. I borrowed one of these for a few weeks i the 80's to try before buy, if it wernt for a Tandberg coming up cheap at the time i would have bought it back then..The long throw VU's were to die for. The thing that gets me with the big Naks later on the digital meters are pants.

They're still a bargain compared to some of the so-called 'high-end' shite sold nowadays for a hell of a lot more, where you're paying for the prestige value of a 'desirable' badge and not much else....Originally Posted by Ian Walker
