Bargains on ebay?

My Marantz CD63 is the equivalent of the Philips (well, it looks identical except that it's in black). I disagree that it will "give you a severe headache within an hour of use". No, it's not the ultimate audiophile player, but it never pretended to be, so shouldn't be auditioned as such. And yes, it has a different sound presentation compared to more modern players, but it can be quite a musical sounding player in its own right. I'm very fond of mine, especially for the likes of Julio Iglesias and other 'simple' (MOR) music. I find complicated multi-layered music can overpower it and sound messy and unfocused. (am I making sense to anyone?)

The Meridian versions are a lot rarer and go for a lot more money. I don't think Andre wants to buy it for it's sound quality, more for it's collectability. Personally I'd rather have it over a cheapo Nad or Cambridge any day. I'll never get rid of mine.

I just found the treble to be a bit "ringy" at the time and couldn't listen for long. The Sony CDP101 was much better, although both of these early machines had a "paper cutout" kind of soundstaging IMO. The MCD Pro I had, which was the first CD player I owned and is still running I understand, 25 years on, had a more relaxed presentation and more air and space when there..

Andre, that one will give you a severe headache within an hour of use... The Meridian MCD and especially MCD Pro were rather better, although very lacking by modern standards - a cheapo Cambridge or NAD would wipe the pants off one in sound..

Brimey Dave i aint gonna use it, was for keeps sake having the box..The first two machines i bought were the Mission DAD7000 which was the Philips 104 hot rod & the Meridian MCD Pro which you mentioned, the Pro had the bolt on bottom section that carried the power supply if i remember, anyhow i prefered the Mission..I got both on the ticker back then as they were so expensive for a young lad to pay for..

The DAD7000 and B&O CDX were the two machines that persuaded me that CD was worth getting. Both needed some time to stabilise and the MCD-Pro was a lot less "dirty" sounding to me, although not as "exciting" I thought. By modern standards though, they're awful I suspect.........

DAD7000 is still a good machine does get slightly lost on complex passages. Sound a hell of a lot better than most shit these days

I don't like arms with spring Anti-skate.I'm a dangly man..

I think id rather buy this than a Rega all the same.These were Linn mounts.

Selling your's at £1200 was waaaaay too cheap. Now that a new pair will set you back over NINE GRAND, the second hand prices will reflect this.
