I've never seen Eggheads, so I dunno what a wannabe boffin looks like. Round our way, it's all beards, 'man-buns' and tweed. Which is fair enough. No doubt I looked a right tit in my flared trousers and platform boots.

That looks like about 1972/73 to me and you were definitely embracing the trend of the time, even down to the feather cut. Did that shirt have penny round collars? It's very nearly Bay City Rollers.

What's the purpose of the reading lamp? Is it to help you find the door?

That looks like about 1972/73 to me and you were definitely embracing the trend of the time, even down to the feather cut. Did that shirt have penny round collars? It's very nearly Bay City Rollers.

I think it's 1974, because it's definitely my second year at university. The shirt had long pointy collars; I had one of those round collar ones a few years previously. It was bright red. I don't think the reading lamp was ever used, not by me at any rate. That was red, too.

Damn! I almost said 1974, but remembered that my girlfriend had a similar haircut to yours, and that was 1972. Some of the clothes from that era I would still be happy wearing. I loved my Ben Sherman button down collars, and I wouldn't mind getting myself a new 'Harrington' jacket. Black with red tartan lining I'll pass on the two tone 'parallels' though.

I've been helping my other half with her house hunting & we've been to see quite a few. Apart from some having soundbar based type av systems none have had 'proper hifis'. Today we viewed a tidy four bed detached but what interested me more was that the fella had a 'proper hifi' (it was tucked away in the dining room with no apparent listening chair, I reasoned it had been moved for 'staging' purposes). There was a fairly up to date LP12 which, from what he said, had had a fair few upgrades fitted with a Kandid MC cart & a Primare 'stack' with another Linn box (SUT?) & some PMC stand mount speakers. I was just about to ask for a listen when he fired it up voluntarily, he played what sounded like some indifferent R&B from the 80s from a 12" single. I think he thought I would be blown away. The sound? thin top end, muddy middle & very little bass, I just said 'sounds good'. I guess the little standmounts didn't help matters but I also got the impression the source wasn't great.

Yes it would be a bit of a trek, but consider this: For the price of a four bed detached in Essex, you could buy a whole town in East Lancs, and that would include a municipal swimming baths.

Plus we have proper chippies with gravy, mushy peas and curry sauce - non of this saveloys nonsense.
