The Model 5A was first introduced to this country in the early '70s by Linn to replace the Grace 707.

Hand built by retired Swiss watchmaker, Herr Breuer. Breuer could not make enough to supply Linn, so they designed the Ittok based on some of Breuer's design principles and went to Japan for production.

The Breuer arms are legendary for the quality of their bearings and were one of the few arms approved by Koetsu for use with their cartridges. My model 5A is still doing stirling service fitted to a Thorens 124/II.

I know, and I'm not surprised: the push-button switches look and feel a bit 'tacky' but are adequate, and the RCA phono sockets are of a poor quality. Hence my comments about fettling. The standard version does not have a MC input; I installed my own design. A better sounding preamp than the Sugden C51; I still have both of them.

I think the C51 let the side down. I abandoned the power amplifier because it ran hot (it was Class A after all) and found that it could run out of 'head-room'. It did start the Great Amplifier Debate.

I still use a Quad 303 as part of my audio-visual set up, that is, it amplifies the audio output from the Freeview box.
