“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

OK, now I'm awake! Terrific playing here. Great album. Good recommendation...I've not heard anything from Sahib Shihab for a long time, and never this album.

Very nice stuff on there, but definitely late night listening...not the right thing for keeping me awake at my desk here...
Svend, 'after dinner jazz' label should be banished to the pigeonhole dustbin of cliches.
If you find a classier version of 'Day By Day' i'll buy you a pint!...and that word nice!!..arghhh

Ensadindo... Crumbs , makes me want to get up and dance, not sleep.

Despite the title, Very Far from "late night listening"!!

Adam, it seems I've offended you in some way. Apologies. No insult intended. Just poking fun at an earlier (months ago) post of yours re. the Dinner Jazz label. I've deleted my post, above.

    Kind regards,
    Svend

Sven!!! No no no .. just banter mate!
All good. It’s not the Jazz mafia!
Although the ‘Dinner jazz’ thing has always been a headache!
My family used to take the piss out of me and say I listen to elevator music or shopping mall jazz.
My wife once compared Monks piano playing as Les Dawson!!
Check Les Dawson playing piano if you are unfamiliar!!

Adam....whew! Good to hear that. One often misses the intent of such posts...hard to tell if someone is really getting wound up or just throwing banter.

I actually thought your reactions to the Dinner Jazz thing were hilarious. Clearly a wee little nerve is easily sparked there, eh? One gentle prod and Adam is through the roof Now I understand why. Too funny!

Speaking of elevator jazz, I have a good friend who only listens to Smooth Jazz on the satellite radio in his car...Bebop is " Too frantic". I can't do road trips with him, as after two songs I want to either bail out of the moving vehicle or tear out the radio Next time I will bring earplugs, or noise cancelling headphones and my iPod.

Will try to find Les Dawson on Spotify... Can hardly wait...

    Cheers,
    Svend

Haha. You won’t find Les Dawson on Spotify but you will on youtube.
He’s a British comedian from yesteryear.

Road trips with smoooth jazz ...god I think I wouldn’t last long!!
