The swearing in of a President who has been re-elected with a suspiciously high majority of 71%.

Collected a travel visa today. There was a small, but very vocal, protest outside the embassy. Was amused to see as many police in attendance as there were protesters.

For the protestors to care enough to protest is laudable, and I appreciate that such protests in their home country may lead to them being arrested, beaten or even shot, but do such protests in another country really achieve anything?

Perhaps the protestors don't have anything more productive to do, but the police certainly do, in the face of all the violent crime going on.

Sorry if this sounds a bit crass, but if I felt such demonstrations would achieve anything I would be more supportive. My thoughts on this aren't set in stone, and I'd be happy for anyone to tell me why I'm mistaken.

More so these days as people have mobile phones and can video these events, which subsequently appear on social media. Every little bit of bad publicity helps, though the eventual outcome is not certain

There have been similar protests recently in America and France. Even a seemingly immovable and equally corrupt president was removed from office not so long ago. Of course it might be plus ca change, plus ca la meme chose, but what the protesters want is a change.

I can see your point about the social media thing, but do the protestors present such a physical threat to embassy staff? A couple of armed officers would surely be more effective as peace keepers. Or is there a reason we can't do things that way in Britain? Plenty of other places in London where those coppers could be useful.

I have nothing against the protestors, we just need more police, and we need them to be where the crimes are actually being committed.

Put out some cat food, then realised that it was Aldi tinned chicken curry (hot), mixed some real cat food with it. Shortly, I'll go in the kitchen and see if the cat ate it!

My son's dog loves curry and chilli etc... was originally owned by an Indian lady so grew up with a like for it. doesnt seem to have done her any harm although doesnt get it much with him
