Was advised (in this thread actually) by someone who swore by a moka pot for years and had to invest in upwards of 1 Large in a ‘proper’ machine to better it.

Get yourself a quality grinder and your good to go.

That might have been me . Pretty much describes what we did -- used a moka pot for about 20 years before springing for a higher end machine (ECM Giotto). Moka pots are special things, and make excellent coffee. Marco, you will love it. We still use ours from time to time, and almost never travel without it.

As for a grinder, the only recommendation I would make is that you don't need a full-on espresso grinder for a use with a moka pot, unless you plan on getting a pressurized machine later on. But do get a grinder that has machined burrs rather than cheap stamped metal burrs. The latter just mash the beans, whereas machined burrs will actually cut the beans, resulting in less heat and a more even grind. That said, you can get some proper espresso grinders for reasonable money, that can do double duty for moka or even French press. Baratza has a couple of basic models that work great, as do Rancilio (the famous Rocky grinder), and Macap.

Dedicated electric wisk type frothers froth milk better than any espresso machines I have come across.

Qualifying that that is only if you like a thick, floppy, microfoam type of finish.

You also need zero skill.

Cleaning them is harder than cleaning a simple stainless steel jug, though, which you can put in the dishwasher. Unless you can get them with removable inards.

Yup, but I'm talking about crema (from the coffee), dude, not milk froth. Moka pots, as good as they are, don't produce crema

depends on your def of microfoam i guess. to me proper microfoam can only be made with steam. its like cream, rather than whipped egg white.
