My point was just that Robbie and John (for whom Mike New posted a review) seemed to like the ETP better with a mat on it made from something else. Like a rubber mat on a metal LP12 platter. It wasn't accordingly obvious why you would want to make a mat out of it. Of course I realised that Martin, and presumably yourself like it without a mat. And the engineering issues associated with engineering thin sections probably mean its academic anyway. It just seemed to me there was some form of paradox between advocating using the platter with a Technics rubber mat as best, and then advocating making a mat out of the platter material. Of course, its a free country (both here and in Australia) but it struck me as at the very least reflecting the usual panorama of divergent preferences on AOSOriginally Posted by prestonchipfryer
The ETP used by Mike New is indeed excellent for a turntable platter. So why not use a mat made from the same material?
It would be interesting to have the opportunity of trying a mat made of ETP, to compare to other audiophile-type mats that I currently own.
It probably just needs to burn-in
