I was talking about miniatures like the LS3/5a, KEF LS50, Harbeth P3 ESR, not larger standmounts like the Ditton 15. They're a decent size, big enough to avoid some of the unacceptable compromises.
They do have 90dB sensitivity, probably an easy load for the amp too.
Given how cheap you can buy decent old speakers these days I'd have gone for a three-way speaker for the telly myself. In fact I did, although they cost a bit more than your Celestions:

Just about large enough where the size itself isn't a serious compromise.
