Spinal Tap II: The End Continues

Finally got round to going to see this.

It's okay, has a few moments. Not remotely as funny as the original but that was a very high bar to top.

As usual with these things they don't really get what it was that made the original one so good. And my favourite character (Bobbi Fleckman) only has one very short scene, likewise Artie Fufkin.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > Troels Gravesen Faital 3WC-15.

Sequels are rarely, if ever, as good as the original.

How would you rate it - 4 out of 11?

Maybe a '5' but that's a bit unfair as the original is one of those things that gets funnier the more times you see it so might be true of this one also.

I think there's a lot of potentially funny things they could have done but didn't. Like bring in some of the former band members who are only mentioned in the first one - Ross McLochness or Denny Pudding.

I think the key to the original is that many of the situations, whilst ridiculous, are still believable in the context - like getting lost on the way to the stage. This one starts a bit too over the top with Nigel's Cheese & Guitar shop - and it doesn't get better from there.

There were a lot of funny scenes in the original: the group getting hyped-up for their entrance and then getting lost on the way to the stage; the "up to 11, that's one more"; the stage act where the members of the group emerge from a chrysalis, except the bassist because his won't open until the end, and of course the pyramid prop whose dimensions are in inches rather than feet.

I’ve never seen it either…. Is there room for two behind that sofa, Steve? (Shuffles off to see if it is available on the myriad of streaming services he pays for but doesn’t use…)
