Move over, stick in the mud here:

I'm all for a ban on fireworks.. at least scould anyone setting them off before & after the 5th, & i'm certainly against seeing them still for sale the day after. At least make it a totally organised night all around where fireworks & bonfires are under control by proffessionals, if you can't make it for any reason tough!

This tho doesnt alter the fact that the Atmosphere on the night & after is totally shyite, it nearly always rains.. just imagine all the household crap people put on bonfires as an excuse to get rid because they can't be arsed to take it to the local tip!

It's all a load of ballerkz anyway, it's not done for the kids at all, i doubt most kids know what the so called occassion is all about, a lot of young kids are frightend stiff by the sound of fireworks, poor pets aswell but thats ok as long as so called grown up's get their kicks....

Another point & the most important is too many kids & grownups for that matter get injured by stupidty.injured in such a way they wish they had never clamped eyes on a firework.

So there yer go organised displays cut down on both enviromental & personal damage

I remember when I was a kid living with my parents, we used to put all the lights out and sit in the dark, pretending there was no-one in - or even better, I'd hide upstairs in the front bedroom, with the side window open, waiting for them to ring the bell, with a bucket of ice-cold water....

Then as soon as they were 'in line' below I'd pour the bucket of water over the f*ckers, and shout "Never mind yer trick, here's a wee treat"!!!

Feckin' hilarious - I used to pish myself laughing

[RANT]I was in boots on Friday and the already had all the crimbo tat in pride of place in the shop. I know I sound like a moaning old git but it seems to me the real meaning of christmas has all but disappeared, and we moan about other religions being pushed under our noses and yet don't respect the one on which our country is supposed to be based. Don't get me wrong, I am not religious myself, but it seems a shame. Also, I bet if you asked most of the hoodied chavs begging outside the corner shop saying 'penny for the guy' ( their idea of a 'guy' being a shellsuit with a turnip for a head) who 'Guy' actually was, or what he tried to do, they wouldn't have a clue. this country is going straight to hell I tells ya! [/RANT]

It was either that or the contents of the cat litter tray!

Crimbo lights in garden centres in bloody October? I'd wrap them round the neck of the store manager and make him/her wear them as a freakin' necklace!

    Totally agree with Andre, btw.

Totally agree with you, Mr. Stick-In-The-Mud, I'm surprised our Governments have let it carry on so long, to be honest, given that virtually every other activity has been outlawed by the Nanny State the last couple of decades.

I used to hate Christmas with a passion, to the point that when I was single I stayed at home alone with a pizza and about 5 bottles of nice wine... Now I'm a dad though, things are a little different, although she didn't know much about it the last 2 years I think she will this year - the celebrations will centre around being together as a family (with her various grandparents) and as one of her Granddad's is currently making her a doll's house, we have decided she will only get a few stocking fillers from us - it is very easy, but counter productive to spoil kids, I feel. Give them a satsuma like I used to get be happy I say!

Well the Kids were the reason i went with the flow, now there's no kids at home it's easy for me to stick my earphones on & forget about whats going on in the world..I generally book to work nowadays..Thing is it will get worse for you when she gets older & the competitionary (no such word ) ''whos got the most expensive gift between friends'' syndrome comes around. This is cruel cos kids can be just that to each other, i'm against supplying kids with masses of presents that cost idiotic ammounts of cash & never did. Pressure from their friends & Commercialism have caused all this stupidity to happen, this is what it's like these days.satsuma sounds great
