    Hello Marco

I'm from sunny Worthing in West Sussex.

I've been around the block a bit with my hifi. Tried belt and idler drive tt's before settling on the direct drive Kenwood. Transistor (class A & B) and valve amps have come and gone. Had a few pairs of speakers but now on my 3rd pair on r352's!

The NAD was bought to keep me going while I renovated my house. Have now got a bit bored with house DIY so fancy upgrading my sounds. I've only got a little listening room: 8' x 14'. I'm using the NAD without the pre as it muddied the sound. Bit shrill sounding (I'm using a ProJect headamp as a pre)sometimes so I'm wondering whether a valve pre might sort matters out???

Maybe I should start a newbie thread.

    Wow!

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Music tastes: Hawkwind; Mark Stewart and the Mafia; Led Zeppelin; Karma to Burn; Miles Davis; Nils Petter Molvaer; White Stripes; Kasabian; Prince Far I; Black Crowes; er, do you want me to go on?

Sompting's about 5 mins up the road from me. Will give you a shout Jon (when I get a chance!). Would definately like to give valves another shot but I've yet to hear a valve amp that can punch out bass like a transistor. I do like that valve mid-range sound though. Sigh!

Hello and welcome, Mike. My first ever DVD player was a Wharfedale DVD-750 about 10 years ago - it was fab for movies but to be blunt, rubbish at playing CDs. What model have you got? (Sorry for dissing the DVD-750 its the same one!)

    Enjoy the forum.

He, he! It's a Wharfedale M3 and I'm right now listening to Gorillaz. Actually it doesn't sound too bad. A bit sharp sounding maybe. Up until recently I was using it with an original type DacMagic but this went down on one channel so it's just the Wharfedale now.

I prefer listening to vinyl but this also errs towards a sharp sound. When I use the NAD pre amp I found there was no lack of bass if I twiddled the bass knob but the sound lacked definition. This is why I've by-passed the pre.

I wonder why I don't agonise over the sound of my iPod in my car stereo!
    Mike.
