    Default A quick hello

    Hello ladies and gentlemen

Just joined up so wanted to say a quick hi to you all. I've been loitering over on HiFiWigwam for some years now, on and off (still there actually). I thought that it might be nice to get a slightly different viewpoint on things from time to time, although I know there are quite a few members on both forums. Hoping to make some new friends and acquaintances here too.

Currently running the following main system:
    • Voyd 0.5 Ref, Origin Live Onyx (soon to be replaced with an Encounter), Goldring 1042, Tube Technology M.A.C. phono
    • Cambridge Audio CXC Transport, Arcam D33 DAC
    • Gato Audio DIA-250S integrated
    • Q Acoustics Concept 500

I also have a little second system in my office, comprising:
    • Pimped Project Essential Mk I, Goldring 1042
    • Pioneer A-400
    • Monitor Audio 14

Still tweaking and fettling the main system, as I have some dodgy room acoustics that are proving problematic. I will be doing some basic measurements soon to try and understand the interaction between room and speakers, hopefully to be able to improve the evenness of the frequency response. This may involve some room tuning too, so all ideas welcome (I'm not interested in applying EQ)

Should have added, most importantly, my musical tastes! Starting with the list of "I don't listen to", we have R&B, rap, soul, grime, and the similar related "urban" genres. I'm also not a fan of blues, I'm afraid, or any jazz except for trad jazz (early 20th C stuff). There's always the odd exception mind you.

I listen to a lot of female vocalists, both solo artists and female-fronted bands. Examples - Nerina Pallot, Joni Mitchell, Sara Bareilles, Within Temptation, CHVRCHES, The Shires, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Lacuna Coil. Back in the day I was a bit of a greasy rocker and latterly a Goth, so also enjoy rock, metal, EBM and so on. I grew up with a varied selection of artists from Neil Sedaka through E.L.O. to Jean-Michel Jarre so there's not much I don't enjoy! Always on the lookout for new suggestions.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
