Georgia – Seeking Thrills (2020)
I had a few albums in mind, mainly old favourites, but I’ve decided to give my nomination this time to a new album.
I’ve been listening to the three lead singles (Started Out, About Work The Dance floor and Never Let You Go) for a while since discovering her last summer (BBC coverage of Glastonbury I think) so was very much looking forward to January’s release of the full album. Georgia Barnes is 30, a record producer, songwriter, singer, and drummer, and the daughter of Leftfield co founder Neil Barnes, which I guess is where she got her interest in music and synthesizers especially. Her self-titled 2015 debut is much less commercial, hence why I think she has only now started to get attention as this, her second album is more synth-pop than her alternative/experimental debut.
Seeking Thrills is a mixed album, with different styles and tempos, but I really like her voice and the synth sounds she produces, with some very catchy synth hooks that remind me of 80’s video games. She also seems a really down to earth performer – there’s a great video interview with her here -

I don’t expect this to be many people’s cup of tea, but I hope at least some of you enjoy it!
