75 years since the D-Day landings. Incomprehensible what they went through. Lest we forget.
Just heard this on the radio - written and performed by a Normandy veteran - worth a few minutes of your time.
The Shores of Normandy - Jim Radford.
Recorded for the 70th Anniversary, but wouldn't it be fitting to see it at number one for the 75th commemoration?

Operation Neptune as it was called was the landing of 24 thousand men and equipment on the Normandy beaches under heavy fire.. An amazing feat of planning, bravery and at times luck.
As said, most of us wouldn't be here without it

yes on sunday i was by the big slipway built for Operation Overlord and it now protected
HISTORY: The Brixham slipway and embarkation hard was built in 1943 as part of Operation Overlord, the springboard for the Allied invasion of German-occupied Western Europe. The hard was one of 68 purpose built structures constructed along the southern shores of England and Wales. Around another 40 existing slipways were used and some of these were adapted at this time. The Brixham hard in common with all the others was heavily used in the period immediately before the invasion and during the subsequent three weeks. The hard was derequisitioned on 27th February 1945. At the end of the war the associated jetties were removed and the concrete hard and slipway retained for commercial and leisure use. Between 1952 and 1965 a protective layer of concrete slabs was laid over most of the original surface.
Thinking of the few veterans able to make the journey , i was also helping to find a nursing home for a very highly decorated mosquito pilot in the normandy landings . lets not forget the many who fought on d-day in care and now very very infirm
