CD towers made of wood with plastic CDs in are hardly normal bass trap material - but
I could do with a CD tower or 10 and I have corners free to stick them in.
Might even look good
or could it sound worse ?!

It would certainly diffuse the lower frequencies, but I would be concerned that the CDs would rattle.

Would act as a mid frequency diffuser, it wouldn't trouble the bass unless sited in the corner.
