It is certainly an 'older' version due to the logo and the rear panel. I don't think they changed much on the internals though so would sound much the same as the later ones. Maybe a little bit to much money for an early versionQuote:

Agreed, though. Vintage loudspeakers and/or drive units often need some fettling before giving of their best, which is usually worth the effort, as their best is often far better than the 'best' offered by the majority of modern speakers, one can buy in perfect condition! ;)
However, Devons, although decent, were never Tannoy's greatest creations....

No Marco. My understanding is that Lockwood only offer a complete recone. Presumably the work and time needed to fit replacement surrounds makes it an uneconomical repair which would probably cost near as much as new cones anyway. But from the competent owner's point of view, it's a DIY job worth taking on.Quote:

After that, I went straight out and bought a pair of Lockwood Majors - and the rest, as they say, is history!

Too true mate.... but because of the good ones a lot of the not so good get hyped up price wise causing people to get the wrong idea and rubbish all of them. I think Tannoys have suffered more from this than most brands alas. My ones are pretty good thanks to a good driver but there are a few models very similar that use other drivers and sound crap in comparison.

You also get the ignorant and uninitiated rubbishing them, when they've never heard good ones in the right context, or worse, heard some ropey ones, once, 30 years ago in some piss-poor system, and subsequently make all sorts of remarks about them, which bear no relation to the reality, when they're optimised and used in the right system.
