Compared to modern 'cars' the Allegro is now quite good looking. If we forget about the Vanden Plas model with the absurd Rolls Royce grille.
You call it "good looking" - everything about it is drab and uninspiring. Face it, the '70s was the decade fashion took a holiday: flared trousers; 'teardrop' collars; wide lapels; skinny tight fitting shirts, and platform heels! And brown was 'in' as a colour for both interior decoration and for clothes, as well as for cars.
All the clothing you mention there (as well as two-tone parallel trousers, Ben Sherman button down or 'penny round' shirts, Crombie coats, 'double denim' and 'Budgie' jackets), formed part of my wardrobe (I didn't actually have a wardrobe in my teens, it was a chest of drawers and a chair piled with larger items). The 70s wasn't the decade fashion took a holiday, that WAS the fashion. Maybe it was the decade that taste took a holiday, but really we didn't see it that way at the time. Current fashion (if there is such a thing these days) may well become an embarrassment in years to come.Quote:

Couldn't do much about suits, and the 'kipper' ties of the time, but I refused platform heels and wore sensible brogues instead. Managed to make my straight corduroy jeans more or less last the decade.
However, more to the point, the '70s was a great period for music, not pop but the sort of stuff shown on The Old Grey Whistle Test.
Two tone suits, Dr Martin's, Ben Sherman, Crombie's, Harrington Jacket's, Loafers, I never wore any of it, no self respecting hippie would, however I look back at the era and always thought the Skins were "smartly dressed"
I never considered myself a 'hippie', (how could I, with my Harrington or Budgie jacket, but I'd be wearing them along with flared jeans or "Loons", denim waistcoats, Afghan coat, and shoulder-length hair :doh: Thinking about it, I'm amazed I ever got a girlfriend... Thing is, I just wore what I liked the look of, without any regard for which 'tribe' it was meant for.Quote:
