I've only owned one pair of MS speakers, the MS400's, 13" x 8" EMI + large Peerless soft dome (some were fitted with KEF T15) and Coles 4001G supertweeter, these were pretty good sounding, though I think they would have benefited from a slightly larger enclosure.
funny you say that as i was just looking at a pair on the bay.
Watch out for shrunk surrounds on the extremes of the large axis of the EMI elliptical bass unit.
My friend has done a very effective repair of these on several units.
Extremely rare pair of AR-10Pi speakers
The LRMs use a higher resonance version of the driver in my Cheviot II speakers. The LRM has the corrugated hard edge surrounds and the Cheviot II has foam roll surrounds. Otherwise the drivers are to all intents and purposes similar. The bass is more extended with the Cheviot II due to the lower driver resonance and larger cabinet. The overall tonal character is very similar though. These are the best sounding 12" pepperpot Tannoy dual concentric units I've used. Better than the Monitor Gold 12" and HPD 315 models I've had.
As for the System 800 in comparison? They are very different, but just about as good in my opinion. The scale is smaller and the top is marginally smoother I feel, but the SRM/Cheviot II have more mid transparency and a touch more vitality about them (and obviously more 'wallop').
More Tannoys!
A pair of Tannoy Eatons in Welwyn Garden City at a fair price and open to offers. I love these little monitors (had five pairs), they use the HPD 295A alnico pepperpot driver that has non rotting rubber surrounds and seem to last forever. Basically a ten inch version of the 12" Monitor Gold really. Very sweet sounding and surprisingly punchy. Highly recommended as an intro into 'real' Tannoys.

Could be interesting to see if they go for silly money as refurbished ones...
Good quality contact cleaner, very cheap. Half litre aerosol of Unipart cleaner for 0.99p plus £3.95 carriage. A bargain, Unipart stuff is top quality!

I just bought two. Free postage on additional ones, making this unbelievably cheap.
Nuts! A pair of Tannoy DC3000 at a monstrous £580 asking price. They're just not that good. Same driver line up as the smaller DC2000 in bigger boxes. The pick of the bunch (from the plastic coned models) is the compact DC1000 which is more coherent and can be bought at around £100.

Could be a bargain! Theta CD player & DAC. Currently at £205 and ends in a few hours. The player is iffy, but the DAC sells for about £400 as a rule. Worth a bid just for that. I love Theta DACs, they always sound really nice.

It'll be interesting to see what these Tannoy DU296 drivers & crossovers fetch. They are the same as those in my recently purchased Tannoy Ascots, but these are not in as good condition (and have no cabinets obviously).

ends at 21.30pm today - should go for more than £50 quid
wasn't Rare Bird (Andre) looking for one to complement his pre/power setup ??
Needs a PCB Speed Control box - but the mate-labs MagicQuartz would work really well with this baby (only 100 euros )

Description
In 1970 this turntable cost as much in the UK as a Garrard 401 and a Thorens TD-124 put together. It's a very nicely made turntable, apparently the first ever Servo Controlled deck and it has an impressive bearing and a whopping great DC motor. There is a problem with the power supply though - the speed wasn't remaining consistent and after running for half an hour or so the resistors started to get quite hot and there was some fine white smoke coming out. Hence the "For Parts Or Not Working" category. Cosmetically it's really nice. That plinth isn't really doing it any favours and as it's cut for an SME 3012 I will not be including it unless you're prepared to collect it. I've also got a place on lid but, as I say it's not of the greatest quality.

On Gumtree. Acoustic Research AR6 speakers in West Yorkshire for £40. Must be worth having even if they need surrounds.

These don't come up for sale very often, might be good for someone wanting sensitive speakers as they are rated at 94dB..

Heybrook TT2. Look at the last picture. Written on the brochure says serial number 172 made by Shane! Is this you Shane??

Probably. I don't know how he'd know that though. There were three of us who assembled them so without seeing the writing on the box I couldn't say if it was one of mine or not but, being one of the first batch of 100, it probably is.
Looks like it's had a bit of bodgery, and I find it hard to believe that Johnny was responsible! The on-off switch is a non-original item that must have needed some surgery to fit, the feet are a bit odd and the arm mounting and wiring look decidedly hit and miss (what's with that p-clip srewed on the back?) but basically it looks pretty sound. Given an afternoon's fettling it'd be as good as new.
Not at all sure about that red mat....
I just posted a question on Ebay asking how he knew it was one of mine. Wonder if I'll get a reply?
seems to have removed that reference Shane
Should I take that personally, do you think? :)
