Thought the Goldpoint also did well (both it and the Slagle had their respective strengths), but in the context of the test system, the Slagle undoubtedly edged it.
As I said in my review, that wasn't too surprising, as I'd spent some weeks, leading up to the event, 'voicing' the Goldpoint specifically to suit my system, which has a rather different balance from that of the test system at NEBO :cool:

I thought that too. I found it impossible to spot any subtleties but in the overall presentation Ali's effort 'grabbed' you from the off and the Goldpoint was a bit more 'airy fairy'.
None of the contenders were sufficiently 'better' than what I've got already though, which was comforting ;)

For me, it was more the mid and bottom end, where the obvious differences were: the Slagle was a bit warmer and fuller sounding (but in a good way), and the Goldpoint, a little colder and leaner. However, in my system, with big vintage Tannoys, it just sounds right! :)

Reading this thread, I've been thinking about the (sonic) difficulties of demo'ing kit in a big function room. From the pics, it seems that everyone set up their systems around the boundary of the room, where the electric sockets. I was wondering if there would be any benefits to going into the middle of the room, and firing back towards the walls? Sort of create an oblong 'island' of kit. You'd need to safely supply electricity of course, but using that layout, it should be possible for each set-up to be firing at a wall (say) 15 feet away. With seats in the correct place, perhaps this would better replicate domestic conditions? Anyone any experience of doing it that way?

I can't help thinking we got too ambitious with having four systems at a time set up last time and I think we could have set up a little differently. Your thoughts please. It is very important.
A better room from an acoustics point of view would be good but not a deal breaker. I think we did have some problems with the raised floor area not showing speakers at their best.
The downstairs room at the Windmill was better, solid floor and the dimensions large enough that any potential room issues were pretty much banished.
