Not sure about it being a "great movie". Based on a story by Ray Bradbury: 'Make Room, Make Room', it deviates significantly from the story in that to feed an overpopulated planet, a synthetic food made from soya beans and lentils (hence 'Soylent Green') and not the more sensational idea of using the recently deceased and putting them back in the food cycle. Bradbury was so incensed with the change of idea that he refused to have anything to do with the script, and insisted his name be removed from the credits.
Sad that it was Edward G. Robertson's last role.
