That doesn't surprise me either. There's a reason, you know, why I'm always telling folks with Jelco 750s to ditch the stock headshells (basically Sumikos) and buy an Oyaide, or some of the high-mass NOS ones! ;)

The Sumikos are ok, but definitely not the last word in headshell design...

Those Gyrodecs are timeless- makes me want to buy one on looks alone, and what is the motor on the second T/T doing being used as a record weight?;)

A PROPER WORKING Legend ain't no fruitbox guv'nor. Quite the opposite in fact, very lively yet with refinement almost in the best PT class. Some of these later AR decks had poor bearings though, and I believe the model-name was changed when the bearing was re-worked. the early decks looking like this had severely wobbly bearings and the sonics were extremely poor, much worse than any rega or pro-ject IMO. A later one was in a different league entirely I thought and an EB101 is an extremely good value used deck I think - prices were around a ton for ages on these latter decks - far better than a knackered old Ariston IMO.

I had an EB101 for many years and it was sound, of course I am interested in TT culture and history, keep em comin.

Keep giving us the history and info Dave. I can assure everyone that Dave knows his TTs and although sometimes we have disagreed I respect his long experience and indepth knowledge, it could save someone the heartbreak of buying a polished turd ;)

The weight on the Acoustic Signature Analog One mk3 turntable is a record weight with LED showing speed accuracy. This turntable does not belong to me but if I had the money I would definitely buy it. :)

It's a TTWeights Classic (aluminum) record weight. I love it; but, if your cart is especially wide, this is not the one for you. They probably have other options in that case and/or another company entirely would be a good choice.

Thanks for the compliments you guys. The 2M is the best MM I've ever heard (and that's quite a few I can tell you). The bass is rock solid and tuneful (something not heard by me from any other combination that I've had). The mids sound just right and the treble is, on the right recording, good. Compared to the Lyra it's not as brightly lit but detail is just as good. I love it. Before I had the Tecchie/SME V some recordings never sounded 'right', if you get my drift. With this combination most, and I mean most recordings sound bloody marvellous. You know the saying 'knocks CD into a cocked hat' well it does, and then some.

John,sorry to bang on a bit, l have an SME V, l maybe put on my second 1200, l did it before using a Helikon, the sound was amazing, but not very musical compared to my stock 1200 using the Helikon in the Sumiko headshell, so does the 2M Black address this?:)

Yeah, I would say it does, it's not 'in yer face' like the Lyra. And is it musical?I think so; but I think it's the whole sum of my system which makes it so. The trouble with us audiothingies is we are never quite satisfied with what we have, are we! So we keep looking for something that we think is there but we don't know where it is; if you get my drift. If you like the sound of your system then you are doing well. :lolsign:

Funnily enough l love the sound of my lightly tweaked Techie, as the sound is so musical, l would like to transfer this musicality to my second Techie/ SME V, so l will post nearer the date of purchase for new cartridges:)
