All the new-build housing areas round here have one or more "mini reservoirs" amongst them, I think this is to reduce the shock of sudden heavy downpours overwhelming the drains. I suppose they must be effective, or they wouldn't keep doing them. Though they rarely have any water in them, just a lot of weeds and a "Danger-Deep Water" sign.
It's funny how ancient civilisations were masters of water-management but 21st century Britain struggles with even the basics of it.
Seems like there's always either too little or way too much and it's all in the wrong places at the wrong time. Then they try and bullshit that's it's all down to 'climate change.' No, it's down to incompetence and lining their pockets with the money instead of using it to improve the situation.
I mean, who do they think they're kidding? The Assyrians managed it fine even though the height of their technology was the ox cart.
Simpler times though. Going from top of the hill to the valley, it would have been drinking water then bath water then bogs. And anyone who flouted the rules wouldn't last long.Quote:

We had biblical thunder storms last evening, but dry at the moment. Trying (probably in vain) to get a load of washing dry before the next predicted storms arrive. Also waiting for the washing machine repair person (musn't assume it's a man) - typical after a week away it has decided to only spin intermittently - takes about four goes for it to do it. I have a plan (not an A-Team style plan, a monthly payment that means they come and fix it for "free") and they must have been and replaced the motor brushes 5 times (which is what I reckon it will be again) - the machine must be 10 years old plus, and gets used at least every day, but it keeps soldiering on with the maintenance visits.
You'd be better off with an A Team style plan :)
What's a new washer these days, £250? What's the plan cost over ten years? Take it to the tip and buy a new one.
The only washers that are really bomb proof are Miele Professional (not their domestic models which are the same as all the other brands just with a higher price).
My old Hotpoint still going after 20 years and it was second hand so who know how old it really is. But only used once every two weeks.

We started out with a Hoover Keymatic (remember them?) They were close to bomb proof. Had a selection of plastic "cards" to insert depending on what programme you wanted.
Had some proper rain here overnight and this morning. Stopped now, but it should be back again later.
Back in Stoke now and it's raining here too.
