I pushed the boat out on the Holo May KTE dac, the Serene Pre was designed specifically to bring out the best in it. Reviews are fantastic.
It also works as a Class A Headphone amp, from its 3 ohm XLR output, so opens up that to me too.
Holo Audio make great gear, the engineering level is nuts.
Their Holo Red streamer is next level good compared to what I used before, its great kit.
Happy to have the Holo Audio Stack, sure theres better out there but its a good stopping off point for me.
I think it it was made anywhere else but China it could be a LOT more expensive.
Having the units stacked together reminds me of the Densen Amps I used to have, always liked how they looked and its the same for the Holo Audio stuff.

The Topping is very clean, massive value for its price and dare I say it I prefer it to my PS Audio Pre?
Wanted to try it in my system first to see how I got on with it, and its really great. A few niggles though, not sure Id be happy long term.
But cant help think the matching Serene (the KTE version I'm going for) is the way forward.
The Preamp can be the heart of the system, so worth getting this one right I think.

What is the difference between the Serene and the Bliss?
The Bliss is just a headphone amplifier.

Looks like a very logical step for your next preamp Gary. Seriously well thought out preamp and very high specs. I expect it is very clean and transparent.

Diminishing returns is a real thing, an MSB Dac (or the like) is 10% better but 250% more expensive.

Great it’s worked out Gary. I am sure the May KTE can produce some awesome results if my Cyan 2 is anything to go by which is apparently 75-80% the performance of the May DAC.
I too have been gobsmacked by what I have heard from some digital material which has far exceeded expectations and far exceeded anything I have heard from my analog rig. Holo Audio really do seem to have found the magic formula and unleashed maybe the full potential from digital audio?
Excellent to read Gaz, there is much truth in your post, the realistic fiscal ceiling particularly.
I shudder a bit when I thing how much I have spent on hi-fi (paramotoring and leisure vehicles as well :rolleyes:), but life is for living.

Out of interest, how much of your final 2019 system is still in place?
I would love to try the Holo DAC, but I need to fit a new liner in my pool next year, so HiFi funds will be limited.
