Marco.
The picture was good but the accompanying prose was pure genius.
That little 'un is mad - the lower tweeter is great to 28KHz, yet they've put a jangling scan-squeak 8KHz resonator above it................
Ashley said one brilliant thing on HDD recently - why not re-introduce ELLIPTICAL drivers again. The EMI unit from the 1960's was apparently very good indeed for its era and the KEF B139 was a very good bass unit as long as it was crossed over below 450 Hz, where it had a resonance I understand. With modern materials and CAD design, this could answer a lot of problems to do with radiating area........
In the flat earth days you'd run a top-notch source (LP12 :D) into feisty little amps by Naim that could handle difficult loads into some small and difficult load bitch of speakers with a girly name or something named appropriately after the slang word for headphones.
Then the wisdom crept in in recent years: why not use bigger/easier to drive speakers and amps that tell you more about what's at source instead of attempting to hector the bitch down the road.
You don't need to live in a mansion to house big speakers though.
Exactly, I bet that either my lounge or listening room are no bigger than Andre's main rooms in his house, or those belonging to many other people using small speakers ;)
It's not as if I'm living in a mansion, or something!
Marco.
The issue is one of the missus cramming the room with useless bits of furniture (if you gave her the Albert Hall she'd do exactly the same) and then tell you there's no room for those bloody great big 'orrible monstrosities.
But my stereo is in the living room, not a dedicated listerning room, one each side of the TV the only place possible.. All i can fit in is slim floor standers..This is why it did my head in living in this place. But but but i don't really care too much now, i listern the headphones.
