Just a random episode from 1978 that I taped as it was on in the middle of the night.
Not seen any of these since they were ordinally broadcast. I recalled it being watchable if not great, but I can tell you now it's shockingly poor. Much worse than I remember.

Those Jesse Stone thrillers are excellent.
I did try to watch one based on your recco but it was very, very slow to get started and seemed to require some prior knowledge I didn't have.
Stupid Sky box only recorded first half of Ep. 1 and couldn't get the rest on catch up. So no idea how it ended up. Then I lost interest.
Just getting into something called "Bosch" on Prime Video. Quite interesting despite the main character being a bit dull. I'll stick with it for a while in case he does something interesting.
I guess you could describe the pace as 'measured', but the cast and acting are top notch and what violent action there is, is immediate and decisive.Quote:

one of my brothers had the music from the opening credits to Trading Places at his wedding, for the 'leaving the church' bit.
His first choice was the closing credits music from Star Wars 'A New Hope' but his wife to be vetoed that.

Got a DVD of 'The Drowning Pool' 1975 to watch. Paul Newman, Joanna Woodward and Melanie Griffith. I saw this follow up to 'Harper' years ago and thought it was an excellent thriller.

Another Fritz lang film with American Guerrilla in the Philippines, 1950. It stars Tyrone Power, who during the war was a pilot and flew in the pacific combat area.

Based on the factual book of same name. US Navy Ensign Iliff "Rich" Richardson was the executive officer of PT 34. After its sinking by the Japanese, Richardson and a dozen fellow Americans attempted to sail a native outrigger to Australia, but the boat was sunk in a storm. He eventually joined the Philippine guerrilla forces, setting up a radio network to keep the various bands in touch with each other and Allied forces in Australia. After the liberation of the Philippines, Richardson dictated his memoirs to war correspondent Ira Wolfert, who published them in 1945 as An American Guerilla in the Philippines. The book became a Book-of-the-Month Club selection and was published in condensed form in the March 1945 issue of Readers Digest.

Another Fritz Lang film today. The 1945, Scarlett Street. Stars Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea, who had earlier appeared together in The Woman in the Window (1944), also directed by Fritz Lang. Local authorities in three cities (New York, Milwaukee, and Atlanta) banned Scarlet Street early in 1946 because of its dark plot and themes.

You can't fault a bit of Forces TV. They seem to be the only channel showing proper telly nowadays.
Them and ITV4 I suppose. Except when ITV4 cancel the proper telly to put on the Tour De France or some other sporting shite no-one cares about. At least Forces never does that.
ITV got 4 channels which except for ITV4 are wall-to-wall wank. Yet if they want to put on women's cricket or some other total non-event they put it on the only channel that shows anything good.

The spacesuit type worn by the film's UN Astronauts is actually the Windak high-altitude pressure suit, developed for the Royal Air Force. Each was fitted with a 1960s-type aqualung cylinder worn as a backpack. These pressure suits would also be used in two Doctor Who stories: William Hartnell's final story "The Tenth Planet" and the Patrick Troughton-era "The Wheel in Space". They also appear in the original Star Wars trilogy as the costumes for Bossk and Bo Shek.

The film was named The Wild Geese after the Wild Goose flag and shoulder patch used by Michael "Mad Mike" Hoare's Five Commando ANC.
Ian Yule, who played Tosh Donaldson, had been a real mercenary in Africa in the 1960s and 1970s. He was cast locally in South Africa. He then brought his former commanding officer, Michael "Mad Mike" Hoare, who had led one legion of mercenaries, 5 Commando, Armée Nationale Congolaise (not to be confused with 5 Commando, the Second World War British Commando force), in the Congo Crisis of the 1960s, to be the technical adviser for the film. a role which he shared with Yule.

The Tiger I tanks were actually Soviet T-34 tanks that had been modified to look like the German tank. The US Sherman tanks were the M4A3E4 variant. Kelly's platoon also drove an M3 Gun Motor Carriage before it was destroyed on the hill, as well as several half-tracks. The Germans also drove a Kübelwagen.
Kelly's men were armed with a mix of .30 caliber machine guns, Browning Automatic Rifles and Thompson submachine guns, with few carbines or rifles.
