His first choice was the closing credits music from Star Wars 'A New Hope' but his wife to be vetoed that.

Got a DVD of 'The Drowning Pool' 1975 to watch. Paul Newman, Joanna Woodward and Melanie Griffith. I saw this follow up to 'Harper' years ago and thought it was an excellent thriller.

Another Fritz lang film with American Guerrilla in the Philippines, 1950. It stars Tyrone Power, who during the war was a pilot and flew in the pacific combat area.





Based on the factual book of same name. US Navy Ensign Iliff "Rich" Richardson was the executive officer of PT 34. After its sinking by the Japanese, Richardson and a dozen fellow Americans attempted to sail a native outrigger to Australia, but the boat was sunk in a storm. He eventually joined the Philippine guerrilla forces, setting up a radio network to keep the various bands in touch with each other and Allied forces in Australia. After the liberation of the Philippines, Richardson dictated his memoirs to war correspondent Ira Wolfert, who published them in 1945 as An American Guerilla in the Philippines. The book became a Book-of-the-Month Club selection and was published in condensed form in the March 1945 issue of Readers Digest.

Another Fritz Lang film today. The 1945, Scarlett Street. Stars Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea, who had earlier appeared together in The Woman in the Window (1944), also directed by Fritz Lang. Local authorities in three cities (New York, Milwaukee, and Atlanta) banned Scarlet Street early in 1946 because of its dark plot and themes.





This is the Kino Lorber Bluray Region A, and tmk the only bluray version.


A box-office hit in its day (despite being banned in three states), Scarlet Street is perhaps legendary director Fritz Lang's (Metropolis) finest American film. Kino's immaculate 1080P transfer, from a 35mm Library of Congress vault negative, restores Lang's extravagantly fatalistic vision to its original B&W glory. When middle-aged milquetoast Chris Cross (Edward G. Robinson -- Double Indemnity, Little Caesar) rescues street-walking bad girl Kitty (Joan Bennett -- The Reckless Moment) from the rain slicked gutters of an eerily artificial backlot Greenwich Village, he plunges headlong into a whirlpool of lust, larceny and revenge. As Chris' obsession with the irresistibly vulgar Kitty grows, the meek cashier is seduced, corrupted, humiliated and transformed into an avenging monster before implacable fate and perverse justice triumph in the most satisfyingly downbeat denouement in the history of American film. Both Scarlet Street producer Walter Wanger's wife and director Lang's mistress, Joan Bennett created a femme fatale icon as the unapologetically erotic and ruthless Kitty. Robinson breathes subtle, fragile humanity into Chris Cross while film noir super-heavy Dan Duryea, as Kitty's pimp boyfriend Johnny, skillfully molds ''a vicious and serpentine creature out of a cheap, chiseling tin horn.'' "CHiPs" on Forces TV. Bit dated, but good for vegging out on a Sunday sofa

You can't fault a bit of Forces TV. They seem to be the only channel showing proper telly nowadays.

Them and ITV4 I suppose. Except when ITV4 cancel the proper telly to put on the Tour De France or some other sporting shite no-one cares about. At least Forces never does that.

ITV got 4 channels which except for ITV4 are wall-to-wall wank. Yet if they want to put on women's cricket or some other total non-event they put it on the only channel that shows anything good.
