I haven't thought about it to be honest as i'm not exactly sure what kind of condition the stylus is in :scratch: Somewhere round here i have a 60 - 100X microscope type thing-a-majig so i could possibly take a close look at it & see if it's fit for use & possibly give it a whirl :)

The Frog works really well on the SME V - I've heard that combo, and it's rather good! Loads of detail and finesse.
The Jelco only really comes into its own with high-quality MMs (like the current Nagaokas), or ideally, low-compliance MCs, such a the DL-103, SPU, EMT, etc. You also need to hear it with a top-notch aftermarket headshell fitted, such as the Oyaide, or the high-mass Ortofons and Audio Technicas, which are available.
That makes a massive difference! The stock headshell is quite poor, IMO, and isn't representative of the superlative engineering of the rest of the arm.
So which T/T has been given the (huge) advantage of the MN bearing? ;)

I am not sure I agree entirely re the Jelco. It has sounded pretty good with a couple of the MC's I own...not the Clavis though. The VDH Frog is a Gold :) which is very tasty indeed.Quote:

Think of it as two arms, one mounted on the end of the other. The massive gantry (and it sure as hell is a massy arm) deals only with horizontal motion, is magnetically damped and is counterbalanced with the big weight on the end. The small arm is very light, deals only with vertical motion, has its tracking weight set by a spring and is counterbalanced with the small weight on its end.
The result is a massy arm with huge damping to give the horizontal motion a feeling of being set in concrete - at least as far as the cartridge is concerned at groove velocities. The vertical motion is so sprightly, in comparison, that it tracks warped records with ease, in fact laughs them off. There is *nothing* in my collection that it cannot track.

The control knob looks like Thorens. The arm looks like an Acos? The clamp is definitely a Michell :)

It shouldn't be too hard to get one. Its a TD160 put in a new plinth with a new top face plate and a new arm plate. The arm is a Rega R200, totally rewired with silver plated litz, with a Denon DL304. I got everything for peanuts, apart from the DL304 which I got for cheap enough considering how much it is new.Quote:
