Not just the worst version it's also one of the worst films ever. Diabolically bad in every respect.
The Robert Powell version was also pretty poor IMO.

There's also the ITV TV series with Robert Powell reprising the role, which is watchable but suffers from poor scripts and low production values.

This is The Bluray(German) version from Koch media. Its a fairly decent copy that has english settings etc. pleased to pick this up as its a fav of mine
i would have the more version above the 2008 one. its not that bad really, just done in a late 50's style. The dialogue didnt really fit more and niether did the role tbh. but it was quite watchable if you ignore the bookQuote:

Ths is the Region A locked 2k bluray from The Criterion Collection.
The Grapes of Wrath, 1940. Directed by John Ford, It was based on John Steinbeck's 1939 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The screenplay was written by Nunnally Johnson and the executive producer was Darryl F. Zanuck.
It stars, Henry Fonda, Jane Darwell and John Carradine.

A superb transfer this; one of the best, and helped by being shot in low light i think.

Murder, My Sweet is considered one of the better adaptations of Chandler's work. Glenn Erickson wrote, "Murder, My Sweet remains the purest version of Chandler on film, even if it all seems far too familiar now."

Weir recalled that when the film was first screened in the United States, American audiences were disturbed by the fact that the mystery remained unsolved. According to Weir, "One distributor threw his coffee cup at the screen at the end of it, because he'd wasted two hours of his life—a mystery without a goddamn solution!"
Critic Vincent Canby noted this reaction among audiences in a 1979 review of the film, in which he discussed the film's elements of artistic "Australian horror romance", albeit one without the cliches of a conventional horror film.
Despite this, the film was a critical success, with American film critic Roger Ebert calling it "a film of haunting mystery and buried sexual hysteria" and remarked that it "employs two of the hallmarks of modern Australian films: beautiful cinematography and stories about the chasm between settlers from Europe and the mysteries of their ancient new home."

Probably a very difficult watch for most, but this type of thing did go on in Tasmania back in the day. Jennifer Kent got a lot of abuse for it, but not from me.

The film is about a kidnapping that goes down in 1934 Kansas City.. Altman gathered some of the best living jazz musicians, put them on a set representing the Hey Hey Club, and asked them to play period material in the style of the Kansas City jazz giants (Count Basie, Coleman Hawkins, Jay McShann, Lester Young, etc.). He filmed their work in a concert documentary style, and intercuts it".

Although not accurate to life it is a decent film overall when it concentrates on the(apparently) fictional dual. Zaitsev's weapon is a 7.62×54mmR Mosin Model 1891/30 sniper rifle with a PU 3.5× sniper scope.

To Have and Have Not, 1944.. Bogey again with Walter Brennan and Lauren Bacall. It was directed by Howard Hawks, and loosely based on Ernest Hemingway's 1937 novel.

In her autobiography, Lauren Bacall described what she called Hawks's "brilliantly creative work method" on set. She described that every morning on set, Hawks would sit with Bacall, Bogart, and whoever else was in the scene in chairs in a circle as a script girl read the scene. After reading through the scene, Hawks would add sexual dialogue and innuendo between Bacall and Bogart. After Hawks and Bogart felt the changes were adequate, Hawks would add one light on the set and they would go through the scene. Hawks would encourage them to move freely and do what felt comfortable for them. After going through the scenes a few times, cinematographer Sidney Hickox would discuss camera set ups with Hawks.
According to biographer Todd McCarthy, To Have and Have Not is a quintessential Hawks film. It contains classic Hawksian characters such as the strong male and his female counterpart. He also states that although elements of Hemingway, Faulkner, and Casablanca can be found in the film, it represents Hawks's capacity for expression, claiming it is, "beyond doubt, exactly the work its director intended it to be, and would have been nothing like this in the hands of anyone else."
