Thanks Adam.
I did think they had a bit of a Goodmans look about them. Thinking about it, I've never seen any speakers branded as Garrard and I've never thought of searching eBay for them before. Don't think I'll bother then.

Blimey. Personally speaking you'd have to GIVE me that much to take them away!
I agree, those Royd A7 speakers are horrible, I've heard them!
HAHA GOT TO LAUGH AT SOME PEOPLE NOT LIKE THERE ORIGINAL CANTERBURY CABS OR HAVE I MISSED SOMETHING.

It has the basic power supply, but I already have the superior PSU1 with my ERA V Gold. Sorted!
I've been after one of these for some time, but they tend to fetch silly money.
Anybody in the market for an ERA V Gold?
Nice looking Alphason Sonata turntable.

Never mind old pieces of shit :nono: Things of beauty more like :eyebrows:
Indeed. Plus the bit where it says "0 bids" suggests that it hasn't actually sold for that price.
This twat thinks someone is going to fork out £220 on their Minstrels.

Excellent idea - it appears to allow passers by to hack into your sound system!
And it's got "pure, rich, incredible sound". Says so in the listing!
So far this little speaker has 258 victims. :)

For the simple reason that they are not an "old piece of shit", any more than a grease-bearing Garrard 301 is an "old piece of shit". They are rare and desirable, having been 'hyped up' by Japanese audio enthusiasts (just like Garrard 301/401 and EMT designs), so now command a lot of money - and some sucker will pay.
£2,300 is an absurd amount for a Thorens 124/II - it doesn't even come with an arm board. I doubt it will sell.
It's funny how time changes things, because that is exactly how both items were regarded in the late seventies with the advent of flash looking direct drives and the likes of Linn. This also applied to classic valve amplifiers like Leaks, Radfords and Quads, etc. Most people were mystified that some persevered with them instead moving to 'modern' solid state amps and the continued production of high class valve gear by companies like Luxman was a regarded as strange thing.
Oh dear who's going to be the one to tell Mattymoon his beloved hifi is only worth £50 ?
Mattyloon more like it!
Nice looking pair of ATC SCM12 speakers. ATC's are on my want list!! Of course, I'd have to get an amp with good current!

Never heard any ATC's, like to hear what the fuss is about. Diametrically opposed to my sensitive wide range driver with bass helper OB's of course..
A friend of mine had a pair of ATC SCM 100A speakers (the big expensive buggers) and a Mark Levinson CD & processor driving them. You could say it was an impressive system, truly effortless, at the monstrous price it should have been too. Mind you I definitely could hear a slight touch of 'woodyness' to the upper bass, due no doubt to the big pulp bass cone. Otherwise the whole system was as close to perfection as most people would hope for. The Levinson gear is stupendously good.
Should be at the price!
Ooh, yes please!
Wish I could justify buying these, ESS Heil 'Air Motion Transformer' Tweeters. I've heard them a few times and they are wonderful.

I have the ESS AMT 1b, I can pack them for Christmas if you want  :eyebrows:
How good are the 201 Gale's? they seem rather dull...
Lucky boy. I've heard the AMT1 and the AMT1 Tower. They are superb speakers, the Tower has some spectacular bass from its transmission line and both have a glorious top and mid.
It's a funny story as well, I saved them from an austrian lad who was returning to his homeland and he was going to dump them in the bin in a week or two along with a Yamaha CR-2020, couldn't believe it then. :mental: In the end they came cheap!
Wow! Some luck.
An interesting pair of old Lowthers.

Acoustas. Got them for nothing from a bloke who was moving house the next day and just wanted rid. PM6a drivers (from memory, this was 20 years ago now). Full range with the whizzer cone so you are not exactly going to get a sparkling top end no matter what you feed them with. Sold the drivers to Classique Sounds and turned the cabs into PA speakers for a mate who was a DJ. Happy days.
That's odd. I've had a couple of pairs of Acoustas and found them bright.
Don't see many of these Audiomaster MLS5s for sale
