Yea, just seen that Dave,
Still Id still like to hear if anyone has ever had one,my friend has snapped it up:doh: should have kept my mouth shut
I have a Matrix Mosfet PA power amp. Stonking build quality and great sound. I would not be surprised if the power amp stage of the domestic amp was similar.
Hmm, the Hitachi MOSFET application circuit results in a very dry, flat and boring sounding amp. I tried it many years ago. Also the big Hitachi amp of the time was not a great sounding unit. There are other ways to make MOSFETs work well.
Looking on the 'net, Musical Fidelity's Synthesis integrated amp was said to be a basic interperatation of Hitachi's application and was well regarded in the '80s.
This wont be around for long.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sugden-A28...item232b81a09c

That paint is like flock wallpaper in a can - how the hell any sound gets out is a wonder. If you take the grilles off, do you think all the treble that you should have heard will fall out onto the floor?

These are fab speakers!!
They certainly are... but to be blunt the stock crossovers are complete & utter tripe of the lowest quality. I cant even begin to imagine how good they would be with new hardwired crossovers using quality modern parts
I mapped the crossover for future reference :eyebrows:

Aye I cant understand what they were thinking  even compared to a crossover from the most basic Kef model of the same time they are just laughable !
I used to have a pair of "AR94's" which I thought were quite good at the time, these should be even better http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A-R92-ACOU...item2ec83d0307
Jesus why do people keep putting A&R! When they sell AR gear?
If you can, get some replacement inductors as IMO the originals are the weakest part of the design. Jantzen audio sell air-core replacements that will cost around £20 all in delivered.
You would lose the functionality of the midrange switch, I don't know how much of an issue that would be for you ?
Which I discovered is a "off-center-tapped inductor" ... Its actually difficult to find replacements with the same series resistance its so high due to the cotton thin wire used.
You can either decide which way you prefer the midrange switch & replace with the appropriate value inductor [1MH=flat / 1.6MH=cut] or buy 1x1MH & 1x0.6MH and wire them together so they mimic the original. Completely pointless unless you must keep them working as originally intended.
By the way, these are fantastic speakers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Technics-s...item19dd15332e
They don't sound "hifi" impressive at all, just make very enjoyable sounds.
Cool looking deck!!! Shame about the pic quality :(
