Sounds like you've got a bad one there Barry. But I don't think they're all bad. Maybe most of them. I take your point about the ales, though if I was a real ale aficionado I doubt Wetherspoons would be on my itinerary. And as I would only visit for my breakfast, a cup of tea would be more my thing.

Preston's Wetherspoons isn't great, but I'm not saying it has anything to do with being next door to the Job Centre... We all used to meet up there many years ago at the start of a night out. And though they had a 'no music' policy (designed to encourage and enable conversation), with everyone talking louder than everyone else, you still couldn't hear yourself think :doh:

When visiting Poole's Wetherspoons for breakfast a few years ago, the staff had neglected to clear a table a few feet from us long enough for the local gulls to enjoy a free brekkie of leftovers. Which resulted in most of the crockery lying broken on the floor, and even that didn't rouse the staff from their clock-watching and discussing who bagged off with whom the night before.

But then there's the Hartlepool one that as Martin has reported before does a decent job, does it promptly and doesn't charge the earth.

Two old boys in there sat near me I was listening to then while I ate:

'How's your Cathy?'

'Oh she's fine. She's been in hospital this week for an operation on her spine.'

£5.05 for full cooked breakfast and as many cups of tea as you want - it would have to be pretty bad in there to keep me out.

At the pub we went to this morning, my cooked breakfast was 8 quid, a cup of tea extra. And it really wasn't all that, I won't be going back there.

I doubt I could find anywhere round here that does a full English cooked brekkie under a tenner. The little cafe in the village is £10.95 but that’s pretty much 2 of everything plus beans tomatoes and mushrooms. No drink included, but toast is.

Weather wise it hasn’t rained but pretty gloomy off and on, 73% chance of thunderstorms now. 15c so not too cold. Forecast looks very good at the weekend, fingers crossed…

went into town, needless to say started raining half way there, got soaked on the way back since the rain was accompanied by a gale starting up from nothing.

Been back about 20 minutes and the sun is out now.

803 of them in the chain so I suppose bulk-buying helps keep the costs down.

There was a thing about Wetherspoons and Toby on the TV last week and it is due to bulk buying and minimal waste. Even so, you can pay £8 for just a coffee elsewhere but Wetherspoons charged £6 (can't remember) for a full English with endless Coffees.
